Five conversations about the church

We are working with a team of leaders who are in the midst of a discussion about the 360 degrees of church. We'd love for you to join the conversation. We're looking for 5 images of the church essential that can help us all think about it (and communicate it) in more compelling ways.

Someone in marketing would say it's helping us find our "brand".

So... What are the contours that shape the original idea of the church?

  • That depends on the definition of your question. What about the church are you trying to define?
When you say the 'Original church', do you mean the early church?
Sounds like an interesting discussion, though. What are the '360 degrees of church'?

  • We're trying to find an image - a word picture - a tight concept - a meaning packed sentance that helps us get back in touch with that part of the church that could never be institutionalized. As with any organization, there is a difference between it's structure and it's ethic - the moral energy beneath it. One can be captured (the structure), the other only brushed up against for a time.

We're trying to find a compelling way to describe the church to ourselves and our generation so that we don't lose the soul of what it was meant to be.

  • I agree with shawn, Mike Yankoski said " A church is just a building untill people enter into it". It's the people that define what the "church" will be and act like. Organic (not deep fried) community, the raw, authentic, vulnerable but safe relationships that allow us to grow deeper than we could if we did it alone. Allowing God to bend our hearts back the right way through each other. Who knows what that looks like on paper but just a thought.

  • Brilliant - I love every sentance of that.
